In a world where data privacy has become a major concern, OpenAI is taking significant steps to put users in control of their own data. With the introduction of the ability to turn off chat history in ChatGPT, users can now easily decide which conversations will be used to train and improve the AI models.

An Overview of Chat History Management

Previously, opting out of data usage for training required users to fill out a form. OpenAI recognized the need for a more user-friendly solution and has now implemented a simple toggle in ChatGPT’s settings. This can be changed at any time, providing users with greater control and flexibility over their data.

When chat history is disabled, new conversations will not appear in the history sidebar and won’t be used for model training. OpenAI will retain these conversations for 30 days, only reviewing them when necessary for abuse monitoring purposes, before permanently deleting them.
