When AI Leaves You Breathless: How Midjourney v5 Can Choke Seasoned Photographer’s Confidence

Midjourney v5 — auto generated test image

Embracing the Inevitable

What started as a fun dopamine hit delivered through the visual cortex has left me in a junky withdrawal mode with the latest upgrade of Midjourney to v5. I’ve created thousands of photo-realistic images with v4, but what I saw v5 capable of doing is pushing me to sell all my camera gear and start whittling to pass the time. Is this the end of photography as we know it? Or are we witnessing a new renaissance in the world of visual arts?

Les Parisiennes is a book of photos I published using images generated in Midjourney v4. You haven’t heard about it because… well, I was a bit embarrassed by a dear friend of mine whom I deeply respect and who really hates ‘AI art.’ But that fish is now out of the net… oops!
