I AM AI — Algography.Art Series

In case you’re wondering if AI is about to take over your job the answer is probably YES. There is a new study by OpenAI whic says that ChatGPT, a cutting-edge AI chatbot everyone is love-hating right now, could disrupt 19% of US jobs (there is data to back this up, though very speculative mind you… hype? Oh, yesss… more please, there is a hunger…).

OK, let’s break it down to see if your job is on the chopping block!

ChatGPT and Its Powers

ChatGPT is no ordinary chatbot. It’s capable of:

  • Writing essays and marketing pitches
  • Programming computer code
  • Extracting insights from financial reports

And with the new GPT-4 model, it could impact:

  • 50% of the tasks needed for 19% of US jobs
  • 10% of work tasks for 80% of the US workforce

Who’s at Risk?

Jobs with higher wages and more software-based tasks are more exposed to ChatGPT disruption. Here are some key findings:

  • Science and critical thinking skills: Less likely to be affected (phew… I’m safe.. ooops, noooo)
  • Programming and writing skills: More likely to be affected (yeah, all those Coding for Kids programs… ouch)

Most Affected Professions

Are you in one of these fields? You might want to pay attention:

  • Interpreters and translators (良い時代は終わった)
  • Poets, lyricists, and creative writers (you make too much money as it is!)
  • Public relations specialists (get into politics quick!)
  • Writers and authors (Bukowski was right all along… don’t try)
  • Mathematicians (yeah, revenge of calculators… ha ha)
  • Tax preparers (one way ticket to Caymans?)
  • Blockchain engineers (those exist?)
  • Accountants and auditors (depends who you keep books for… I guess)
  • Journalists (dictators will have to incarcerate generative pre-trained transformers instead… gonna be messy!)

Industry Breakdown

Some industries are more exposed than others:

  • High exposure: Data processing hosting, publishing, security commodity contracts
  • Low exposure: Food services, forestry and logging, social assistance, food manufacturing (ever seen those cooking robots? yeah, they’ll have an alliance with AI… and…)

Study Limitations

Keep in mind, the study has some limitations:

  • Jobs may not be accurately represented by simple labels (bureaucrat…?)
  • GPT has been known to make mistakes, which means humans still need to supervise (nooooh… no mhishtgaekesahhh… trfusrsdted meehhh)

While ChatGPT might not be ready to fully automate jobs, it’s definitely going to change the way we work. So, let’s buckle up and get ready for the AI revolution! (no need to wait for a coherent manifesto, let’s just build barricades and guard them… hurraaayyy!)

Sorry, this was supposed to be a serious article but I got carried away. Go ahead and read the long version now:
