A custom GPT is like a special version of ChatGPT that you can create to do specific things. Think of it like making your own robot helper. You decide what it's good at, like helping with recipes, giving travel advice, or even making jokes. You don't need to be a computer expert to make one – it's like customizing your own video game character, but instead, you're setting up a chatbot to talk about things you're interested in or need help with. The idea behind custom GPTs in a GPT Store, which is currently a bit uncertain, was to have dedicated GPTs or AI agents pre-prompted and fed specialized knowledge to accomplish specific tasks much better than by trial-and-error fine tuning of prompts. Think of higher accuracy, less hallucination, and faster results that you're looking for, rather than engaging in a lengthy and intricate conversation with a chatbot to coax out the desired response (like casting spells and enchantments at an invisible ghost in the machine).

Here is an article I wrote about making two GPTs: https://medium.com/generative-ai/create-your-ai-app-in-5-minutes-a-simple-guide-d0bdbdb1c40c

I'm pausing development of public-facing GPTs for now. There are knowledge-base security issues that I'll be publishing a story about shortly. Not to mention the twists in the ongoing Alman/Brockman mutiny on the deck of OpenAI... ;-) Stay tuned!
